Monthly Reference (Potential) Evapotranspiration

Map_attribution

Reference evapotranspiration is defined as the evapotranspiration (ET) from a well-watered reference surface (Allen et al., 1998) and is often referred to as the potential evapotranspiration, which  however, is technically incorrect.  For the technical definition of reference and potential ET, click on the following link: https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ae256. The reference or potential ET is the evapotranspiration from vegetation that is not water limited and is typically greater than the actual or “real” ET, which may be lower due to limited availability of water in the root zone.  Note that the month associated with the estimated reference evapotranspiration is shown at the top of each map.
